Every Kilowatt Counts Summer Sweepstakes Contest – Conservation Tips

peaksaverUsing 10% less electricity this summer could make you a winner!
There are lots of little things you can do to use less electricity - and they don't cost a thing! And little things sure add up. Taking these simple steps will not only save you even more money, they'll better your chances to win. Check out these easy and convenient tips that will help you to achieve your 10% target:

  • Turn Off - turn off any unnecessary lights.
  • Make the switch - when replacing your bulbs, choose compact fluorescent light bulbs. They now come in all kinds of sizes and shapes - there's much more variety now.
  • On the brain - when you're aware of how and when you're using electricity, you'll discover a few simple changes that could really pay off.
  • Power down - use a power bar to turn off power to electronics like your TV or computer equipment when they're not being used. All that phantom power is using electricity unnecessarily.
  • All dried up - wash clothes in cold water in an energy-efficient, front-loading machine and use sun and wind power to dry them on a clothesline instead of using your clothes dryer.
  • Be cool, but not too cool - do you really want to be pulling on a sweater in the summer? Turn the thermostat up a bit in the summer - and you'll still feel comfortable. Add an ENERGY STAR ceiling fan or two to feel cooler in the summer, they use a lot less electricity and will lessen the work your cooling system will need to do. You might not even need your air conditioning at all.
  • Change is good - we recommend you change your furnace filters monthly to keep your central air conditioner running as efficiently as possible.
  • Raise the bar - when the time comes to replace your appliances, ENERGY STAR qualified products are the most energy efficient available today. Give some thought to running your appliances at off-peak hours to lessen the stress on the electricity supply. Let's keep the juice flowing.
  • Take the test - get an energy audit done on your home. You might be surprised at the results, and you'll have a full list of improvements you can make to save those kilowatts!
  • Heave the Hog - get rid of those energy hogs in your home. Think of that window shaking A/C unit, and especially that 10 year-old second fridge with a few drinks in it. Check out The Great Refrigerator Roundup - we'll pick it up, right from your house, for FREE! Looking for other ways to save? Click here to learn more about using less electricity.
